I'm waiting for an opportune time to use the newly completed Trojan War figures in first games of both Midgard and Ilium: A Game of Heroes. Frankly, I'm mostly waiting for the temperature to drop so I can spend time in the garage where my gaming table is set up. Still, modeling activities continue.
Last week I completed a group of twenty-five 40mm Prince August semi-flat figures from their Seven Years War range. These were home cast by Rob Dean (of The Sharp End of the Brush). Rob runs an Imagination campaign which he refers to as Not-Quite-the-Seven-Years-War. I had expressed an interest in trying my hand painting some of the figures since I had never worked with semi-flats before.
I based them on Swedish troops of the mid-18th century. I like the plain, simple style of the Swedish uniforms and, frankly, the details on the drop-cast figures is not that well defined so it seemed like a good choice. I hope Rob likes them. I really, really enjoyed designing the flag. In fact, in my head these soldiers serve the Federated Principalities of Gryffonia. Yeah... well, that's the appeal of an Imaginations campaign, isn't it?
And then there were frigates!
During the COVID shutdown I purchased and painted French and British fleets of the (then) recently released Black Seas ships. I admire the ships (even with their generic design decisions), love the scale but didn't care for the rules.
But that's OK. I have plenty of other Age-of-Sail rules which I do like. Over the years, however, I thought the price of the Warlord ships quickly exceeded their value. For years I've toyed with the idea of getting a resin printer to print my own ships. That's not really a feasible idea at this point in my life.
So several weeks ago I decided to try an Etsy vendor for resin printing instead of imposing forced favors from friends with printers. Happily, I think I found a reliable service. I had downloaded a couple of free ship models from Wargaming3d.com to use as low risk test models. It took a fair amount of back and forth to clarify exactly what I was looking for but the end result was sure worth it! I've got two new frigates on the painting table and I've already purchased a selection of 3rd rate ships for the next batch. I'm excited to say that the shipyards are busy again!
